ACD as a Laudato Si School

ACD as a Laudato Si School

#Ourcareforthecommonhome

In 2015, Pope Francis released his encyclical Laudato Si (Praise be to You). The document serves as a wake-up call for integral ecology—a call to care for our common home. The Assumption College of Davao (ACD) has declared its institutional support for this call. The school refers to it as the “ACD Laudato Si Movement” and has even formed an action platform.

In addition, as a Laudato Si School, ACD wrote a letter to the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development. Furthermore, this call is similar to what the school has been doing in its Ecozoic Learning and Living program since 2007 and 2009.

As part of the school’s action, ACD recognized its best practices and conducted institutional benchmarks in environmental stewardship. Here is one of the challenging questions that our school crafted: “What are the existing programs and activities about ecological integrity that need to continue and improve?” There are actually a lot, but for this content, we will just focus on institutional tree-planting activities, which were participated by teaching staff, non- teaching staff, and students.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the following endemic trees were planted:

  • March 2022: Institutional Wellness Program Mahogany Seedlings (200 pcs) at CENRO
    Watershed Brgy. Eden, Toril.
  • October 2022: SHS CLE, Science, PEHealth Areas Mangrove Seedlings (150 pcs) at
    Coastal- Sitio Malamboon.
  • October 2022: College League of Values Education Students Mangrove Seedlings (300 pcs)
    at Coastal Sitio Malamboon.
  • November 2022: Non-Teaching Personnel Club Mangrove Seedlings (300 pcs) at Coastal-
    Sitio Malamboon.
  • December 2022: National Service Training Program Classes Mangrove Seedlings (1000 pcs)
    at Coastal Sitio Malamboon.
  • December 2022: SHS Red Cross Youth Medicinal Herbal Planting (60 pcs) at Retreat House,
    Tacunan.
  • February 2023: Parent Teachers Association Elem/Junior HS Mangrove Seedlings (300 pcs)
